Under Ms. Ryan’s leadership, millions of satellite images have been made publicly available, allowing policy makers to make better-informed decisions on a range of environmental issues. Barbara has held Senior positions with the USGS, WMO, GEO, and is now the Executive Director of the World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC ) – a not-for-profit trade association of private companies working in the geospatial and Earth observation sectors. She serves on several Boards and Advisory Groups, including Data4Development Insights (D4DInsights), the U.K.-based Ecological Sequstration Trust, the International Center for Remote Sensing and Environment (ISRSE), the START Board of Directors for training, education and research for sustainability challenges, and from 2018-2021 the Jane Goodall Institute.
